For the people I love
Page by page
A life, one memory at a time.
Example contents. Your outline is drawn up from your own memories.
More than a string of memories
A vacation memory. A story from work. Someone you have never forgotten. Conversation by conversation, the material for your book comes together.
Héritage arranges it into chapters. You choose the outline, you read over the texts, and you have the last word.
You do not need to be a writer. You need a first memory.

Two stories to read
héritage.Story 1 · The memory
In October 1951, I was five years old. For my first day of school, I walked down to Uzerche with my cousin Jeannine. She was two years older than me and held my hand for the whole three kilometers.
1Story 1 · What came next
The teacher, Mademoiselle Faure, gave me a slate and a piece of chalk. In the evening, I did not want to give the slate back. I cried, so she let me keep it until the next day. I kept it the whole year.
2Story 2 · The memory
In 1965, at sixteen, I was an apprentice at the Berthier print shop, rue de la Gare. Every Saturday, the boss paid us in cash, in an envelope. My first wages: a hundred and twenty francs.
3Story 2 · What came next
I gave it all to my father. He gave me back ten francs. “That’s for you.” With that money, I went and bought a pocketknife at Roblot’s. I still have it. The rest, my mother put away in the tin on the dresser, for the house.
